The Process to Setup Google Authorship

Before digging into the process to setup the Google authorship lets find first what actually the Google Authorship is.

Google Authorship:

Its a way to say the Google that the content that is written is authorized by you.
Before authorship came into existence Google cannot judge who is the author of a particular content residing on web pages.

In other words, its a way of making your image and name linked with a blog post in the SERP.

Since the content has given more importance by Google, a new feature is being added by Google to find out the actual owner of a particular content present across the WWW, that feature is called as "Google Authorship"

It helps Google to identify the real owner of a content and thus helps to find out the author.

After Google authorship came into existence, Google started giving more importance to the content to which the authorization has been setup and also started giving the particular Author comments and likes more importance in-terms of search rankings.

Lets say an author who has authorized with the bunch of contents across the various domains and his comment or likes or contribution will be given more value than a normal person.

For example when "Rand Fishkin" or "Danny Sullivan" Likes a particular social profile or Comment or Contributed their views on a particular webpage then their weightage is high than a normal person and thus helps to build trust and as well as boost the website ranking in search engine result pages.

How to Setup the Google Authorship:

Whenever an Article or a Blog post is contributed on a particular website then that can be shared accross your friends circle your business friends etc and thus make them believe that it has been written by you but how to make Google believe that it was actually written by you.

Below are the prior steps to be followed.

1. You must have a Byline (Headshot, Author Name & Bio) in you blog post.

A perfect byline can be a sum of Headshot, Author Name, Small Author Bio, Shared This plugin & Like Button.

2. You must have a Google Plus profile Associated with the Headshot and the Name.

The Headshot and the Name of the Author associated with the Google+ profile must matched exactly the same way as it is present in the Byline of a blog. You cant use short forms of your names as an author or interchange of first and last name which will make it mismatch and thus Google will be unable to grab the author name in the SERP. in the same way the headshot should be the same as it is present in the the Google plus profile or else Google will be unable to pull out the image in the SERP.

After making the headshot and the Author name same in both the byline and the G+, now its a linking process to link a particular content written by you on a particular website.

Below are the two type of process to be followed to make Google believe that a particular piece of content is contributed by you.

Link your content to your Google+ profile using a Verified Email Address

 • Check that you have a same domain email address on which the content is getting posted
 • Visit the Authorship page and submit your email address to Google. No matter how many articles or posts you publish on this domain, you only need to do this process once.
 • Your email will appear in the "Contributor To" section of your Google+ profile. If you want to keep your email private, change the visibility of your link.
 • To find out the authorization is 100% correct and to find out how Google extracts your content, use the Structured Data Testing Tool.

Set up Authorship by linking your content to your Google+ profile

 • Create a link to your Google+ profile from your webpage, like this: Google
 • Replace [profile_url] with the your Google+ profile URL, like this: Google
 • Your link must contain the "?rel=author" parameter. If it's missing, Google won't be able to associate your content with your Google+ profile.
 • Now add a reciprocal link back from your profile to the site(s) you just updated.
 • Go to the "Contributor To" section present in the About page of G+ profile. In the dialog that appears, click "Add custom link", and then enter the domain URL.
 • You can keep privacy If you want, click the drop-down list to specify who can see the contributed domain link and then click save.
 • To find out the authorization is 100% correct and to find out how Google extracts your content, use the Structured Data Testing Tool.
